The re-election bid of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received a boost as the Ife-based group, Village People Movement, has endorsed him for a second term in office.
Over 1,000 members of the group, coordinated by former Labour Party House of Representatives candidate in Ifeland, Olamide Awosunle, gathered at Enuwa Square in Ile-Ife to publicly declare their support for the governor.
In a statement issued by Awosunle and made available to journalists on Friday, the group said the endorsement drew youths, women, students, civil servants, artisans, retirees and other stakeholders from across Ife Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Awosunle said the movement comprises members from Ife East, Ife Central, Ife North and Ife South local government areas, all of whom unanimously resolved to support Adeleke’s re-election.
He said the decision followed the governor’s performance in governance, including prompt payment of salaries and pensions, and the execution of developmental projects across the state.
“We have carefully assessed the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke and concluded that he deserves another term to consolidate on his achievements,” he said.
Awosunle added that the group would intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter education to ensure overwhelming support for the governor in the next governorship election.
A member of the group, Obisakin Busayo, praised Adeleke for what she described as people-oriented leadership and inclusive governance.
She said the governor had demonstrated commitment through various development projects across the state and urged residents to sustain their support.
Also speaking, the governor’s elder sister, Modupeola Adeleke, who attended the event as a special guest, thanked members of the group for their support and confidence in the administration.
She assured them that the governor remained committed to delivering more dividends of democracy, including improved infrastructure, youth empowerment and expanded opportunities for residents of the state.
