To enhance public health and market infrastructure, the Rotary Club of Omole-Golden, has commissioned a newly constructed block of four toilets and a urinary facility at the Odo Eran Plank and Building Materials Market in the Agege.
The project, funded by the Rotary Foundation District Grant, aligns directly with one of Rotary International’s core areas of focus: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
At the ceremony, the president of Rotary Club of Omole-Golden, Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, emphasised that the intervention was borne out of a commitment to community wellness.
Adekunmilola said, “Markets drive our local economy, but economic growth cannot happen where health is at risk. This facility promotes healthy living, reduces disease transmission, and restores dignity for everyone who comes to Odo Eran Market daily. WASH projects are not glamorous, but they save lives.”
The event was graced by the District Governor of Rotary District 9111, Prince Henry Akinyele, who commended the club’s execution of the project while urging the market community to protect the investment.
Akinyele stressed that sustainability is key to any community project, advising the market stakeholders to fully “own the facilities, maintain them diligently, and protect them from misuse.”
Upon receiving the project on behalf of the market, the market leader’s representative expressed deep gratitude to the Rotary Club of Omole-Golden for the vital intervention.
The representative described the facility as a “kind gesture” that would address a long-standing market challenge and promised that leadership would establish a strict maintenance structure to take full ownership and ensure its longevity.
Dignitaries present included Rotary District 9111 officials, club members, community leaders, and market executives.
The leadership of the Rotary Club of Omole Golden affirmed that the commissioning is another proof that service above self-delivers tangible results where it matters most in the community.
