Real Madrid Confirm Signing Of Konate

Real Madrid have officially secured the services of French international Ibrahima Konate, inking the Liverpool defender to a four-year contract following the expiration of his Merseyside deal.

The La Liga powerhouse announced on Thursday that the 27-year-old has committed to the Bernabeu until the summer of 2030, with the move set to be finalized once his current obligations with the French national team at the World Cup conclude.

Konate, who arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021, departs after 183 appearances for the Reds. During his time in England, he lifted the Premier League title in 2025 and added an FA Cup winners’ medal from 2022 to his collection.

The towering centre-back becomes the third major acquisition of Real’s transformative summer, joining new head coach Jose Mourinho—who took the reins earlier this month—alongside fellow new arrivals Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva.

With Real enduring back-to-back trophy-less campaigns, the club is pushing forward with a significant squad overhaul. Reports continue to link the Spanish giants with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as they look to reinforce multiple positions.

In related defensive moves, Madrid have extended Antonio Rudiger’s stay through 2027, while veterans Dani Carvajal and David Alaba have both departed on free transfers after their contracts were not renewed.
