Lakurawa Terrorists Kill Islamic Cleric, 3 Others, Abduct 8 In Sokoto

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed the Chief Imam of Kuda-Kuda village and three others in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State.

A source in Goronyo LG Secretariat said the cleric Liman Audu was killed alongside three persons, while others were abducted during the attack oyesterday morning.

Lawali Suntai, who spoke on the phone with LEADERSHIP, said the terrorists invaded the village at about 1:30 am and operated for over one hour, killing four people and livestock, while others fled.

Suntai, who spoke in Hausa, confirmed that the attackers visited so many houses, kidnapping residents who were mostly women.

“About three people were shot, luckily they survived, but are still in the hospital, critically injured,” he said.

Sources identified the victims as Chief Imam Liman Audu, Yahaya Hasanu, Zahara Muazu and Ibrahim Dayyabu.

Those abducted were said to include Malam Shehu Farar Zaki, Yar Yamma, Khadija and six others.

The residents lamented what they described as the lack of security intervention during the attack, noting that the community had suffered repeated bandit raids over the years.

Multiple sources say the community has been attacked severally, expressing concern over the continued vulnerability of villagers despite repeated appeals for protection.

When contacted for a response, Sokoto State Spokesperson Abubakar Bawa didn’t respond to his calls or sms. Meanwhile, the Sokoto Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, didn’t pick up his calls either.
