The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic New Year Hijrah 1448AH.
The declaration was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and conveyed in a circular issued by the State’s Office of the Head of Civil Service, dated June 15, 2026.
The circular, signed by Safiyya Ali Suleiman, Director of Administration and General Services, on behalf of the Head of Civil Service, was addressed to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), government-owned institutions, and parastatals.
It urged residents and public servants to embrace the spirit of the Islamic New Year by offering prayers for unity and sustainable development across the state and the country.
The Islamic New Year, which begins with the month of Muharram, is among the most significant dates in the Muslim calendar. The occasion is traditionally marked by prayers, reflection, and renewed commitment to faith and community values.
