Enugu North By-Election: Why APC Won – Nwoye

The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, has attributed the party’s victory in the just-concluded by-election in Enugu North Senatorial District to the support of Governor Peter Mbah and party leaders.

He expressed joy over the resounding victory of the party’s candidate, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, in Saturday’s by-election.

Nwoye disclosed this in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant, Mr. Ignatius Okpara, and made available to journalists in Enugu.

He specifically thanked the National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and distinguished members of the National Working Committee (NWC) for the tremendous support and encouragement given to the party in selecting a candidate who made the campaign easier.

“Our candidate was a fantastic product that needed little advertisement to market,” he said.

The DNC also lauded the Enugu State Governor and leader of the party in the state, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for providing an enabling political environment that led to a hitch-free exercise across all six local government areas of the senatorial district.

The APC flag bearer, Asogwa, was declared the winner of the by-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 162,360 votes out of the 184,094 votes cast to defeat other contenders.

His closest rival, Dr. Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 9,299 votes to finish second in the keenly contested election.

Nwoye, in the statement issued on Sunday through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Ignatius Okpara, also appreciated APC members in the zone for turning out en masse to discharge their civic responsibilities.

“Your massive turnout and participation on Saturday, despite the heavy downpour, speak volumes about your love for our great party, the APC, and the nation’s democratic process.

“We are indeed grateful to you all for believing in our party. I want to assure you that the national leadership of the APC, under the watch of our amiable National Chairman, Professor Yilwatda, will not take this for granted.

“Rest assured that your incoming distinguished senator, Ikeje Asogwa, will make you and the zone proud at the hallowed chambers of the National Assembly (NASS),” he stated.

End.
