Atiku Abubakar Mourns Death Of Veteran Actor Kola Oyewo

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and scholar, Dr Kola Oyewo.

The legendary actor passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, as confirmed by his son, Adetoyese Oyewo.

Reacting to the loss, Atiku, in a statement shared on his X handle, described the late actor as an exceptional dramatist whose contributions to African theatre and culture remain unforgettable. He specifically highlighted Oyewo’s famous role as King Lapite in the classic political drama film Saworoide.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Kola Oyewo, a legendary thespian and scholar of African drama. His iconic role as King Lapite in the timeless “Saworoide” immortalised his immense talent and teachings. A great void has been left in Theatre Arts.”

Extended his condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the late actor, noting that the global entertainment community has lost a great teacher and storyteller.
