Alumni of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, have been urged to embrace collective responsibility to build enduring legacies and advance the growth of their alma mater.
The call was made by Dr Queen Ifeoma Osuala, Senior Lecturer at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State, during the maiden edition of the IMT Global Homecoming Lecture Series held at the International Conference Centre, Campus II, Enugu yesterday.
The alums were further encouraged to strengthen their bonds through sustained collaboration and participation in association activities.
According to her, a united and vibrant alum community can serve as a powerful platform to advance the institution’s interests, create opportunities for current students, and contribute to national development.
They stressed that by working together and giving back to their alma mater, alums would not only preserve the institution’s legacy but also help secure a brighter future for generations of students. The event brought together alums from across Nigeria and the Diaspora to discuss strategies for supporting the institution’s development and strengthening alum engagement.
Speaking on the theme, “Building Legacies Through Collective Responsibility, ”Dr Osuala identified mobilisation, resource mobilisation and advocacy as key pillars for sustainable institutional development. She said mobilisation was essential in inspiring individuals to contribute their time, skills and energy toward a shared vision.
According to her, resource mobilisation requires alums to provide practical support through scholarships, infrastructure development, mentorship programmes and other initiatives that can benefit students and the institution.
Dr Osuala also stressed the importance of advocacy, urging alums to serve as ambassadors for IMT by supporting policies and programmes that promote educational development and institutional progress.
She noted that lasting impact is achieved through collective effort, adding that legacies are sustained through active participation, resource support and continuous advocacy.
In his remarks, the Rector of IMT Enugu, Professor Dozie Ogbodo, described the lecture as timely and inspiring, saying it aligned with the objectives of the Global Homecoming initiative.
He commended Dr Osuala for her presentation and for her contribution to the programme’s success.
The event also featured networking sessions among alums, providing opportunities for participants to reconnect, establish partnerships, and explore ways to contribute to the institution’s growth.
Participants described the maiden Global Homecoming Lecture Series as a platform for strengthening alum relations, promoting institutional excellence and encouraging collective responsibility among graduates.
The programme concluded with renewed calls for sustained alum engagement in supporting the development of IMT Enugu.
